13 Nov Are you Fighting for Greater Vision?
Can I share something personal with you?
Lately, I have asked God for a bigger vision for Judah, my capabilities, marriage and family, and life.
It is one thing to have lofty goals, but it is a whole otha’ thing to have great vision and Sis, while I’m an excellent goal setter, I often struggle with vision.
You see – I am an only child to a single mother. My mother was a wonderful woman and mother, but like most single parents – she experienced lack. And seeing that lack did not provide me much room to dream.
Stick with me here, as I am just getting this, too! Can any of you relate?
When you are a kid, you are told to dream big and dream right. Dreaming is often encouraged through different outlets, like storytelling, drawing, make-believe, and television. It’s supposed to be the chance to see optimism and the countless possibilities in the world ahead of you.
But – what can affect your ability to ‘dream big’ is your reality. And my reality was sometimes – lack, and I didn’t particularly appreciate how it felt. I knew there were things we needed, and bills that had to be paid.
So, as a child, when I would dream – I dreamt of high-paying professions—ones with prestige, that always indicated an overflow. Because financial overflow equaled no problems – right? Wrong.
Now – as a grown woman approaching 40, I find myself still fighting to dream beyond what I can see in the natural, all while asking for a vision that impacts people and pleases Him.
This act of faith is something I fight for every day. To arm me for this fight, I:
- renew my mind.
Paul warns in Romans: 12:2, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.“
Given that my behavior begins in my mind, and my mind is where spiritual transformation happens, is it any surprise that the enemy wants to mess with my thinking? Our past and present are full of messages and distractions about why we are not enough. It is only when we renew our mind that we can align our thinking with our Father’s thinking,
Renewal begins with daily exposure to His Word, the Bible, and establishing a dependent relationship with Him.
- change my environment.
Author Jim Rohn, an early mentor to Tony Robbins, famously said, “You’re the average of the five people you spend time with
Rohn’s thinking subscribes to the law of averages, which is the theory that the result of any given situation will be the average of all outcomes, and suggests that the five people you’re around the most shape you.
The same principle applies to all aspects of your environment; it’s not just who but also what you surround yourself with that can either propel you forward or hold you back.
Think about it. What are the top five places where you spend your time?
Are you nourishing in those environments? Are you inspired? Do you see the possibilities?
You’ll see real growth when you understand who and what best supports your vision and then align yourself with those people and in those places.
- find the example.
Psalm 37:37-40 says, “Mark, the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.”
This man is perfect, in that he is the example.
The victory of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris means so much for women and people of color. To us, an appointment of this magnitude was unattainable until we saw it with our own eyes.
After her win, Harris said, “While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last. Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities,”
This moment, which will be marked in history, mimics what happens when you can and cannot see something.
As children, we learn to talk, eat, get dressed, etc., by watching other people. In short: We do what we see. So why would learning about success be any different? By studying the work and habits of ‘the greats,’ you can build up a wealth of knowledge fundamental to your journey.
Do not be ashamed to build on the ideas of those you admire. Study their work, read their biographies, and listen to their interviews.
Please take advantage of their knowledge to inspire you and shape your future.
Dreams and visions are two different things. A dream happens while you are asleep; whereas, vision is work required while you are awake. God uses both. He uses our dreams and visions to bring about instruction.
If you are struggling with a bigger vision for your life, seek the face of your Father and ask Him for His help, ask for His dreams and visions.
Women of Judah, there is an assignment for you this season. God desires for you to know what that work is so that you can approach it with intention, focus, and purpose. Ask Him for a bigger vision and to believe that you are worthy of it.
